A gift of reading

More “stuff” is exactly what Joy Vogt didn’t want to give her 94-year-old mother for her birthday. Having previously purchased a goat for a friend’s birthday, Vogt thought of Gifts of Hope. She found an item that would carry special meaning for her mom.

“I knew she wouldn’t be able to imagine her own life without books,” explains Vogt. “That’s why I chose a Library in a Box.”

The gift more than hit the mark. Her mother, Letitia Lloyd was thrilled.

“I thought it was a wonderful idea,” says Lloyd. “Everybody should be able to read.” And that’s exactly what untold numbers of children in Haiti, where the library in a box was delivered, are now able to do: read and imagine and grow, with every turn of the page.

Letitia Lloyd turns 95 this year. And yet again, Joy Vogt says she’ll turn to Gifts of Hope for a gift that celebrates her mother by touching and changing the lives of children.
